Adopt Niko

Mixed Breed · Male

On 24.03. we received a female dog named Nina along with her six puppies (Nick, Nelka, Natan, Nox, Niko and Nio) who were found in the Luník IX district of Košice. Nina took care of her puppies and was an amazing mother dog. Now it's time for all of them to find their loving homes. NIKO IS ONE OF THE RESCUED PUPPIES. Niko is a small, little puppy who is still at the very beginning of his life. He is sweet, sensitive and gradually getting used to the presence of people. He seeks closeness to people and feels more secure in their presence. Like any small puppy, he mainly needs quiet, safety, a regular routine and lots of sleep. Gradually, he will get used to everyday things and slowly explore the world around him. He doesn't have hygiene habits yet, which is completely natural for such a young puppy. Niko is looking for a home in an apartment or a house with access inside. It is suitable for people who realize that a puppy means time, patience and daily care. Niko is looking for a forever home - a home where he will be able to grow up safely and by the side of his people. 06.

About Niko

What life with Niko looks like

Niko is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Niko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Niko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Niko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Niko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Niko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Niko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Niko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
