Adopt Nooa

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The Cosoban shelter kennel receives dogs in many ways. Puppies are constantly abandoned by throwing them over the fence or through the gate, as their owners cannot or do not want to care for them. Since there are few other private shelters in the area, the term shelter kennel has also spread among the people. Therefore, especially residents of the surrounding areas and sometimes even officials ask Adina, who maintains the shelter, for help with stray dogs. This happened a few years ago when Adina received a call about two dogs running around the schoolyard of a nearby village. The dogs apparently could not stay on the school grounds, so the authorities had taken the pair. Since the dogs would otherwise have ended up in the municipal shelter kennel, Adina took them in at her shelter. From then on, Neo and Nooa have lived in Cosoba, as they have always been very cautious. Nooa and Neo initially lived in the indoor area of the shelter, from which they exercised on a smaller inner yard. While living there, they remained very calm and always ran as far away as possible when they saw people. Later, they moved to one of the larger yards of the shelter, and the move has clearly done well for the pair. They handle themselves very well in the large dog group and skillfully avoid the bigger, more enthusiastic dog friends. Their shyness towards people has also begun to change into curiosity, and now the brothers happily run where people are as well. Nooa is clearly bolder than the other one. He follows people closely, and if the surroundings are calm, he cautiously sniffs people's fingers and the treats offered. However, actual touching is still stressful for him.

Cosoban tarhalle saapuu koiria monin tavoin. Nooa ja Neo asuivat alkuun pari vuotta tarhan sisätiloissa, josta he ulkoilivat pienemmällä sisäpihalla. Siellä asuessaan he pysyivät kovin arkoina ja juoksivat aina haukkuen mahdollisimman kauas ihmisiä nähdessään. Sittemmin he ovat muuttaneet yhdelle tarhan isommista pihoista ja muutto on selvästi tehnyt hyvää kaksikolle. He pärjäävät hienosti isossa koiralaumassa ja väistelevät taitavasti isompia, innokkaita koirakavereitaan. Myös ujous ihmisiä kohtaan on alkanut vaihtua uteliaisuudeksi ja nykyään veljekset pyörivät jo mielellään siellä, missä ihmisetkin. Nooa on kaksikosta selvästi rohkeampi.

About Nooa

What life with Nooa looks like

Nooa is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nooa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nooa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nooa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nooa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nooa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nooa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nooa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
