Nora (in DE)

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 5 years

Breed: German Shepherd-mixed-breed female dog Age: Born around 01/2015 Hi, I'm Nora … a large German Shepherd mixed-breed female dog with some life experience already under my belt. I carry short black fur with a distinct brown tinge in my hair and a delicate white spot in front of my chest. I have big standing ears, with my right ear slightly tilting forward at the tip, giving me an irresistible charm. I have beautiful mahogany-colored eyes that can really mesmerize with their beauty. I am a good-natured soul, friendly with everyone, whether small or large … I love them all and cuddle with Hans and Franz unasked and unannounced. I have a calm and balanced temperament, unless bunnies, hedgehogs, and company run in front of me, then I might pull out the Nimbus 2000 and be off like a shot … but as long as you can catch me, the recall usually works. I am considered clever here, knowing how to open doors and always solution-oriented. I love car rides, ball games, and swimming, but I am not really a movement wonder and prefer to take things calmly … so I love joggers and cyclists, adieu and back to the shelter! I get along with other dogs fifty-fifty, but that's just how it is among you humans. I master the commands "Here, Sit, Lie Down, and Stay," generally walking on a loose leash, unless dog encounters are on the agenda, then I also pull. I was born in beautiful Hungary. My family there kept me as a farm dog on a leash. That's why I ended up in the animal shelter … in January 2021, I moved to a family in Germany … unfortunately, I also can't stay here and am therefore looking for a new family. I am searching for loving, cuddly people for life who have plenty of time for me and want to engage with me. Living alone is not really my thing, so it would be nice to be able to stay predominantly by your side. I dream of a house and garden, but it should be dog-proof fenced, as I might slip away otherwise. I wish for people by my side who also like to play ball or know where the next lake is and serve it to me for fun. A bit of mental work would also be greatly appreciated, oh yes … and an anti-stubbornness training could be something I could do … as they say. I am of course already neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you would like to adopt me, please contact my handlers.

About Nora (in DE)

What life with Nora (in DE) looks like

Nora (in DE) is a small adult german shepherd dog waiting at Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. in Hamburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nora (in DE), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nora (in DE)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nora (in DE) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nora (in DE) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nora (in DE) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nora (in DE) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nora (in DE) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
