Nora

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Nora sat with her friend Bengy (see www.sos-strassentiere.de) completely intimidated in a Romanian municipal shelter when she was seen there two years ago by our tireless animal rescuer Manuela. The shelter was always full of dogs, but Manuela couldn't leave Nora and Bengy to their fate and took them both. From then on, the two dog grandmothers were safe and no longer suffered from hunger, but the many mostly young dogs stressed them very much. Bengy was lucky and was able to travel to a foster home in Germany. Friend Nora remained behind, mourning and enduring the loud young dog population alone... Since Manuela always has too little time to deal with all the dogs, Nora remained an uncertain dog, avoiding contact, but also patiently tolerating it when approached. Manuela had opened up a little to Nora. She could gently stroke her and occasionally Nora showed a hesitant willingness to be addressed and pampered. Most of the time she just sat in her basket and observed. Since she moved little, she had also become a bit too fat. But then Nora drew the big lottery when Bengys foster mother took pity on Nora and took her in as well. And lo and behold, Nora suddenly showed herself much more open and relaxed than in the stress situation in Romania. One could think it was a completely different dog. Nora gets along with everyone, loves to be stroked and then stretches out comfortably on her back. When you pay attention to her, she wants to please and then makes the sweetest grimaces and funny noises. She enjoys being brushed. The little fat lady likes to play, runs after the others or lets herself be chased playfully. She even teases or lets herself be nibbled everywhere with the puppy of the foster mother, who is just 7 or 8 months old. When eating, she stays in the background and then eats slowly and not at all greedily. Nora is lead-trained and house-trained. She is absolutely no barker. She doesn't need cats for her happiness, the neighbor cats are barked at. For the dear and lovable Nora, we are looking for a loving home with a house and a safe garden in a rural area. Preferably with a confident first dog of similar age or with her former suffering companion Bengy (see www.sos-strassentiere.de). Female, born approx. 01/2018, approx. 35 cm, spayed, vaccinated, chipped, with EU pet passport, negative test for babesiosis, borreliosis, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, dirofilariasis and leishmaniasis. Adoption fee 290 euros. Nora is on foster care in 63654 Büdingen. Contact via or WhatsApp 66.

About Nora

What life with Nora looks like

Nora is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde im Fläming e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
