Nora (Нора)

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

We learned about Nora by chance when we went to the animal shelter to fix our car. In one of the closed garages, we heard a weak dog bark. We started asking people and learned about the dog's heartbreaking story that didn't fit the shelter's profile. Nora, a sibling to another dog, found herself in a garage where a drug den operated. She spent all this time there, suffering abuse, being shocked with an electric prod, and living in terrible conditions. When the police raided the den during an inspection, they brought the dog out onto the street, where she spent the whole day on a special mat. When everything was over, they simply brought her back to the garage, closed the door, and left. That's how Nora found herself alone. Without food, water, or any help. For five days, she was locked in the garage, and people around knew about her, heard her barking, but no one came to help. To rescue the dog, we had to break into the garage. At that point, we only knew that inside was a young girl, resembling a pitbull or staffie. When we finally managed to get Nora to the clinic, it turned out she had tried to escape at any cost. Starved and desperate, the dog had gnawed at the walls, eaten foam, plastic, and insulation. For two days, the doctors worked to restore her digestive system. Today, all that is behind her. Nora is healthy, spayed, and has long forgotten about the garage. She worked with a handler and turned out to be an incredibly intelligent dog. She learns quickly, understands people well, and easily masters new commands. The most surprising thing is that after everything she experienced, Nora didn't lose her love for the world. She adores people, loves children, gets along well with other dogs, and befriends cats. She is active, playful, well-trained, and incredibly tender. Sometimes it seems she still fears doing something wrong, as if waiting to be punished. But it's only a matter of showing her a little kindness—Nora blossoms right before your eyes. We want very much to find her a family that will show her that life can be completely different. Without fear, without pain, and without closed doors. A family that finally gives Nora a real home.

About Nora (Нора)

What life with Nora (Нора) looks like

Nora (Нора) is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nora (Нора), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nora (Нора)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nora (Нора) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nora (Нора) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nora (Нора) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nora (Нора) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nora (Нора) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
