Nos octodons

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Do you know about degus? Degus are rodents native to Chile. They have been domesticated by humans and have become new pet animals (NAC). We currently have 5 at the shelter, some were abandoned by their owners, others come from other shelters. Degus are often abandoned for reasons of unwanted litters or because they are animals that have caused damage, they are real rodents! Degus have an average lifespan of 6 to 8 years. What is the character of a degu? The degu is a diurnal animal, which lives mainly in the late afternoon and evening. It must not be disturbed during its sleep and rest phases, otherwise it will literally be in a bad mood. It is a very intelligent animal, with a very good memory. It easily recognizes its owner once adopted, but it will have difficulty trusting strangers at first. Degus are not animals suitable for children. What habitats are needed to accommodate degus at home? Degus are climbers, so they need spacious cages or aviaries made of glass or metal that are protected from drafts. They need to have branches of wood available to gnaw on, as well as a sand bath so they can have 'bath soil' to maintain their fur. Wheels of at least 28cm in diameter that are not wire mesh are also recommended so that degus can exercise. Regarding bedding, we recommend hemp bedding, which is not toxic unlike wood shavings. What diet for my degus? Degus are strict herbivores, their diet is mainly composed of hay and extruded degu food (no seed mixtures). The degu also enjoys branches of birch, apple, acacia and chestnut. If you would like to sponsor Nos octodons, please do not hesitate to contact us!

About Nos octodons

What life with Nos octodons looks like

Nos octodons is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at AdopteUnChat.org in Châteauneuf-du-Faou.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Nos octodons far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nos octodons, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nos octodons?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. AdopteUnChat.org handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nos octodons on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nos octodons if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — AdopteUnChat.org will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nos octodons already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nos octodons isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with AdopteUnChat.org early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nos octodons and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
