Nube

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

The six-month-old (as of 01/26) Nube is a charming young female dog, with her flowing fur and white markings immediately catching the eye. Her playful floppy ears and the large, curious round eyes make her a real standout. Nube is a mastin-mixed-breed female, but she also carries the genes of a herding dog (and one must always be aware of this heritage), weighing in at just under 15kg at a shoulder height of about 50cm. She is still growing, but it seems quite certain that she will not reach the size of a Bernhardiner. Our little wonder hails from the Andalusian countryside, where she lived with her mother and another dog, without ever having contact with humans. She was born in a den her mother had dug, and a neighbor took care of the family's needs, eventually informing the animal welfare association Dolmen Animal. So, in November 2025, Nube came into the care of the organization and has lived in a dog shelter since then. Her parents still live on the premises, and the animal welfare workers have been trying (so far unsuccessfully) to have them castrated. Nube has long forgotten her free country life and is a small, cheerful nature: she loves to play, curiously explores her surroundings, and actively seeks contact with people. She wants to be seen and stroked, is friendly and open. She gets along well with other dogs and is also affectionate and patient with children. Her behavior is calm and obedient, and she has quickly adapted to her new life and home in the dog shelter. She observes her older canine colleagues and emulates their behavior— and when she deliberately lowers her voice and firmly plants her front paws in the ground, one can see that Nube is convinced she is a top-notch herding dog—quite independently of size and weight. Nube can certainly exhibit typical herding dog behaviors: these dogs are intelligent, vigilant, and independent. They have a strong protective instinct toward their family and home. Herding dogs are loyal but also independent—they need loving, consistent guidance and people who understand their needs. Work must be defined differently for these majestic beings than for other dogs; a garden to watch the neighborhood would be lovely. But most importantly, a herding dog needs a counterpart, consistent but loving guidance, understanding for their often misunderstood independence— and (here speak many years of HSH experience) plenty of cuddles! Nube is vaccinated and will naturally be microchipped before travel arrangements, but she is still not neutered due to her age. For Nube, we are looking for people with heart and mind who take joy in giving a herding dog a natural life. Nube is ready to explore the world and eagerly awaits her own family that will give her security, love, and a home forever.

DE·Show original

About Nube

What life with Nube looks like

Nube is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nube, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nube?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nube on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nube if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nube already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nube isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nube and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
