Nutmeg

Mastiff · Female · Young · 1 year

Nutmeg is ready to add a little spice to your life! This sweet young girl may need some time to find her feet in the big wide world as she has found the big wide world a little overwhelming at times, but once she feels safe and settled, her playful personality really starts to shine. Nutmeg can be worried at first but soon shows her friendly side making friends quickly with calm, kind people and loves gentle fuss and tasty treats. She’s also a big fan of her doggy friends and can be playful and bouncy when she feels comfortable. A confident, mature and patient neutered canine companion could be just the recipe for helping Nutmeg’s confidence blossom. She also enjoys soft toys and would love plenty of positive, reward-based activities to keep her busy. Nutmeg is looking for patient adopters who can give her time to settle into home life at her own pace. She’ll need a quiet home with her own secure private garden and access to peaceful green spaces away from busy roads and noisy areas. Her new family should be prepared to start slowly, initially using the garden while she gets to know them, before building up to short, positive walks as her confidence grows. She’ll need some help with housetraining and recall, and someone around for most of the initial settling-in period. Nutmeg could live with sensible children aged 8+ and may be able to live with a suitable cat or small animal following careful introductions. With patience, understanding and plenty of encouragement, we think this lovely girl will have plenty of confidence to sprinkle around her new home. About Nutmeg

What life with Nutmeg looks like

Nutmeg is a large young adult mastiff dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nutmeg, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nutmeg?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nutmeg on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nutmeg if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nutmeg already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nutmeg isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nutmeg and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
