Adopt Obelix

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Obelix is a super guy who unfortunately can't stay in his home anymore. He is a positive, well-behaved, and learning-minded guy who has taken several tracking and nosework courses with great interest and loves to search for things both at home or out in the woods. He is an outdoor-loving companion who follows you on life's every path, but he also has a strong sense of home where closeness and comfort should be at the forefront. He is good at walking on a leash and enjoys pleasant outings in the car. Obelix can also be at home on his own for a few hours. He loves his home and family and is careful to show it. He is balanced for his temperament – bus and play are balanced with him seeking a nice nap in his bed. This fine lad has excellent doggy language and gets along well with his course mates and other nice and respectful dogs. He is easy to befriend. "Overt" and contentious, larger dogs are not desirable as they stress him out. Nice companions have been allowed to stay over and even sleep in the house, and Obelix has thought it has been fun. On courses, he pays close attention to other dogs and follows what they do. For our fantastic Obelix, we are now seeking an eternal home where he will never have to move again. The home should be in a quiet location, and if a dog is there, she should be friendly and have a calm body language. Life at home should also be quiet. If you have a large social life, Obelix will not be happy – Obelix wants to be YOUR best friend and spend time with you and your family – and with lots of time together out in nature. No small children in the home. BackgroundObelix, with his siblings Asterix and Irina, was born behind the walls of an abandoned house. Their mom thought they would be safe there – but in southern Romania, dogs are not safe anywhere. SaveTheDogs had heard about the situation and planned to intervene.

Inga småbarn i hemmet.

About Obelix

What life with Obelix looks like

Obelix is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Obelix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Obelix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Obelix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Obelix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Obelix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Obelix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Obelix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
