Odin &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Odin came from an unplanned litter from a private household in Switzerland. He then became the second dog in a family where he gets along well with all family members, both with the only dog, as well as with the cats and the four children. The family can unfortunately not meet the needs of the young Odin and is therefore searching for a more suitable home for him. Additionally, the only dog also seems a bit jealous. Odin is a real treasure. He is very people-oriented, clingy, and loves to snuggle. He is very trainable, interested, and motivated. He is very playful and friendly and has never shown aggressive behavior. However, Odin sometimes tends to be a bit pushy, which can come across as very playful behavior when he gets excited. On the leash, he walks very well, he knows the difference between a collar (around the neck) and a harness (he can also lead and sniff). Also, off-leash is possible thanks to learned recall. When Odin meets fellow animals, he always wants to go up and make contact. If he is out freely, he does the same. If he is on the leash, he can be easily distracted. The free-ranging chickens on the farm have inspired him, and because he also easily jumps over high fences, he sometimes needs to be on a leash. Odin therefore needs a new home without chickens, but he would love to live with a dog, a cat, and children. He needs loving people who will adopt him as a family member and include him in their daily life. Odin is vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for rehoming. About Odin &#8211

What life with Odin &#8211 looks like

Odin &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
