Odin

Mixed Breed · Male

Vizsla-Bub seeks a stable home with Odin (male dog, born 04/19, neutered, microchipped, ca. 20 kg) is an especially quiet, sensitive representative of his breed. He is very interested in cuddling and cuddles and would rather lie in his person’s lap than just be attached to them. Additionally, he is a professional cuddling pro and expects stability during cuddle attacks. He reacts very sensitively to moods and tries to help his person in various ways. He runs well on a leash, whether with or without a leash. In free run, he gets along with most dogs. He knows basic commands like sit, down (place), here, come (heel), bed/box, and more. He is very smart and learnable – especially if he sees the point of it himself – opening doors has been learned very quickly, but leash handling took a bit longer. Whether cuddling at home, on a walk, jogging, or hiking, Odin is always there. Being alone is also no problem; 4-6 hours are possible depending on frequency and acclimatization time. Odin needs consistent, sovereign leadership and a clear line. With neglect, he likes to take advantage of gray zones and defend his resources, like a lying spot, food, or attention from his person. Dog encounters on a leash are always a gamble; sometimes they are barked at from a distance, and sometimes they can pass by each other politely. Small dogs are usually approached due to bad experience, while with others, it seems to be a matter of chance. Free run is currently only possible to a limited extent because his prey drive is currently more pronounced. Odin suffers from food intolerances with stomach, intestine, and coat problems and is therefore fed, information and feeding plan are of course included. Otherwise, he is in good health and has shown no abnormalities in any previous examinations. Several long hospital stays and ongoing illnesses on my part have unfortunately led to setbacks in our relationship. I have long tried to make up for these setbacks and to stabilize the relationship, but I realize that it is no longer good for him and me. Additionally, it is very difficult for me to handle him sovereignly and consistently and to give him the necessary security in everyday life. Therefore, I have to reluctantly part ways with him and hope to find a long-term place for him that truly benefits him and fosters his positive qualities. For Odin, I wish for a loving, stable, and at the same time consistent home where he can bloom anew and enjoy life, preferably in the countryside with a garden (not necessarily required). Living with cats, small animals, and children is out of the question. However, I could imagine a sovereign only-dog home enriching his life. Dog experience is absolutely necessary. If you are seriously interested, please contact Anna Pankofer with a meaningful application (please leave a message, I will call back).

Vizsla-Bub sucht stabiles Zuhause Odin (Rüde, geb.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
