Okeanos

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Gender: male Birthday: July 2024 Castrated/Neutered: yes Weight: 24 kg Back story: Okeanos was found in Agia at the water company at the end of 2024. He is the brother of Kyma, Potami, Nero, Limni, Riaki and Pigi. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update July 2026: Update February 2026: Valentine´s Day at the shelter! Okeanos is enjoying his treats: Update December 2025: How can this handsome boy have been waiting in the shelter for an entire year? Okeanos grew up in the shelter together with his siblings and therefore hasn’t had the chance to experience life outside of it yet. Because of this, he needs someone with time and patience to gently show him the world. He can be a little unsure at first, but behind that initial shyness lies a heart full of love, just waiting to bloom. He is an energetic boy who can also calm down quickly and enjoys attention. Okeanos is well integrated into a large group of dogs and has never caused any trouble. A confident first dog could help him feel more secure, but he can also be adopted as an only dog. A more rural environment would suit him best, along with people who are eager to explore, enjoy new adventures, and guide him. He is healthy and neutered, ready to start his new life. Update August 2025: This striking black-and-white beauty is 1 year old and weighs around 23kg. Abandoned as a puppy and yet he wasn’t as lucky as his sisters- Okeanos is still with us. Growing up in the shelter means the outside world is still a bit unfamiliar to him. New people, new places- they might make him a little insecure at first. But behind that initial shyness lies a heart full of love, just waiting to bloom Okeanos is an energetic dog who is also able to calm down quickly and enjoys attention. He’s integrated into a large group of dogs and never caused any trouble. He would benefit from having a second dog but that’s not a requirement; he would also be happy on his own. A more rural environment and people who are eager to explore the world with him, enjoy new adventures, and guide him through training with patience and enthusiasm would be perfect for him. Update January 2025: Nobody will believe that he was abandoned and is from Crete! What a handsome boy! He spends his time with his siblings and other dogs his age. Update November 2024: Cool Okeanos was born in July 2024 and is the brother of Kyma, Potami, Nero, Limni, Riaki and Pigi. He is most handsome, woudn't you agree? They were found in Agia. About Okeanos

What life with Okeanos looks like

Okeanos is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs patient socialization due to shelter upbringing

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Okeanos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Okeanos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Okeanos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Okeanos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Okeanos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Okeanos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Okeanos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
