Olaf

Mixed Breed · Male

Olaf is an extremely positive and cheerful dog who, by chance, has been greatly underestimated at the animal shelter. Upon entering the animal shelter, due to his gray muzzle and overall neglect, he was assessed as an older dog. It quickly turned out that his temperament and walking abilities definitely exclude being an old dog - Olaf is a dog in the middle age range, very lively and in excellent physical condition. Another mistake in assessing Olaf was that he is very difficult to handle with other dogs. Because of this temperament, his tendency to approach all dogs and slight recklessness, it seemed that introducing him to another dog was an impossible mission. How it actually is will be mentioned later. In addition, Olaf at the animal shelter was a terrible "puller". He could pull forward during the entire walk, not paying much attention to his caregiver. All of this made Olaf definitely not a dog that can be recommended to most people. The true nature of Olaf came out by accident, after he badly injured his paw in the kennel. The first car ride to the vet and the first surprise - Olaf very politely rides in the car on the back seat. After the procedure, Olaf was placed in isolation, where he was a very clean and problem-free dog. Due to the need for longer care after the procedure, we put him in convalescence at a dog hotel. And there was the biggest surprise - Olaf easily got along with a dozen other dogs in the hotel. He also doesn't react to horses. After a few weeks of normal life and regular walks, his ADHD dropped to the level of an average active dog. At the beginning of the walk he still pulls a little, but during the walk he completely calms down. Olaf definitely benefits from staying in a quiet place. In the hotel where he is currently staying, he walks mainly in the forest, where there are few external stimuli and he can relax. Olaf is still not a completely problem-free dog - he has a wolf-like appetite and fiercely defends his food from other dogs. Some dogs he doesn't like for known reasons, so he isn't able to be friends with everyone. But these are not disqualifying or dominant problems over all the great qualities of this adorable dog. Adopting Olaf can help him in further positive transformation. Returning to the animal shelter, a walk once a week - this will certainly cause his socialization to regress and it will be harder to find him a new home.

PL·Show original

About Olaf

What life with Olaf looks like

Olaf is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Olaf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Olaf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Olaf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Olaf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Olaf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Olaf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Milanówku early rather than rehoming privately; they know Olaf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
