Adopt OPA JOHAN

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

The Most Important About Me: Breed: Gekas-mixed breed? Project: Greece/Larissa (E, 04/2021) Gender: male/neutered Age: born ca. 2012 Size: ca. 60 cm Weight: ca. 27 kg Other: very social with other dogs (if no food is involved 😉), initially a bit unsure with people, but very loving once he has gained trust! JOHAN can stay alone at home very well, he loves to lie in his little bed and nap, he is a very quiet roommate. Current Location: Tierauffangstation Griechenland JOHAN's Story This handsome dog named JOHAN lived outside the city of Tyrnavos at an old factory near a busy road. During a community neutering project, the volunteers became aware of JOHAN. Johann was very shy and reserved, but with patience and treats, they managed to catch him. It turned out that JOHAN had many bite wounds, likely from other dogs. He was medically treated, neutered, and had to take strong antibiotics for a long time. The responsible people could not bring themselves to release him back to the dangerous location. After his recovery, JOHAN was given to our colleague Andriana and now lives in the small animal shelter with a few other dog buddies. In April 2021, the test for Ehrlichiosis was positive, so the Doxycycline therapy started on April 30, 2021, and ended on May 30, 2021. All other so-called Mediterranean diseases were negative at that time. Of course, a new test is conducted before travel arrangements. JOHAN is microchipped, vaccinated, treated for endo- and ectoparasites, and, of course, neutered. OPA JOHAN can stay alone at home very well and loves to lie in his little bed and nap 😉. He is a very quiet dog and also very content. A walk, love, cuddles, and good food, and that's all he needs to be happy. This is a current and accurate assessment of JOHAN. How he will behave in the future, especially after moving to a new home, we cannot predict. Every animal, like us humans, can change and continue to develop. We know that there is exactly the right family for JOHAN out there. Once he has gained your trust, you will receive his love 1000-fold.

About OPA JOHAN

What life with OPA JOHAN looks like

OPA JOHAN is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. in Bamberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting OPA JOHAN, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about OPA JOHAN?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw OPA JOHAN on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt OPA JOHAN if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is OPA JOHAN already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if OPA JOHAN isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know OPA JOHAN and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
