Opal

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel · Female · Young · 3 years

Opal is a loving, playful little girl who really enjoys having her people around. She can be protective of her own things around other dogs in the home, that said, she is friendly with other dogs when out and about on walks. Opal is used to being left for longer periods, but she would ideally like someone who is around for most of the day to give her the companionship and love she’s looking for. She can become quite clingy, so her new family will need to continue working on her independence and gently remind her that it’s okay to have some time apart, even when you’re at home. If you don’t mind the sound of lots of squeaking, Opal could be your perfect match! She absolutely loves her squeaky toys and balls, and a basket full of them would definitely help win her heart. Opal will need a family who is happy to continue her training, help her build confidence and independence, and give her plenty of affection, playtime and attention. In return, you’ll have a fun, affectionate and devoted little companion who has plenty of love to give. Opal is a lovely 3 year old Cockerpoo who is full of character and has a huge amount of love to give. She’s a playful, lively little girl who loves having fun and being around her people. Opal is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. She can be social with other dogs when out and about, but would prefer to have her home and family all to herself. She may also have the potential to live with cats and smaller furies with the right introductions. She can live with secondary school-aged children and have older primary school children visiting. Opal can be left for 1 - 2 hours once she has settled into her new home, with potential to be left a little longer once time left alone has been built up. She is familiar with being left in the kitchen whilst her foster carer is out and about. As a Cockerpoo, she’ll also need regular grooming every 6 - 8 weeks, so finding a good local groomer who can take her on would be ideal. Opal is a fun, affectionate little dog who has so much to offer the right family

About Opal

What life with Opal looks like

Opal is a extra-large young adult cavalier king charles spaniel dog waiting at Dogs Trust Bridgend in Mid Glamorgan.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Opal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Opal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Bridgend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Opal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Opal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Bridgend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Opal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Opal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Bridgend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Opal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
