Adopt Opelis

Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Looking into Opel's eyes, all the world's despair, sadness, and suffering are reflected there. In the dog's gaze, one can read everything about the past life, which we hope was good and spent beside his owner, unaware of sorrow. At the same time, there is a question in his eyes about what will come next. Unfortunately, this "what will be" is becoming smaller and smaller every day. Opel has very little time left in this sun. His paws hardly manage to lift his once proud and strong body. A bad thing has also taken residence in his belly, which doctors refuse to operate on due to his respected age – the dog's heart cannot withstand anesthesia. Yet Opel still holds on. He doesn't give up. And we help him not to give up. Opel's owner died, and the dog lived almost a month in an open, abandoned house, with a neighbor bringing him something to eat once a day. The amount of packages and various items that the dog expelled from his body in the first days... Now hunger is satisfied and his bowel movements are stabilized. Unfortunately, miracles will not happen – the years are taking their toll on Opel every day. As long as he can live with dignity in the shelter's harsh environment, we will be with him. With this message, we want to let you know: there still lives in this world such a beautiful, sincere, and kind dog named Opelis.

Diemžēl brīnumi nenotiks – gadi ar katru dienu no opīša prasa savu tiesu. Kamēr vien viņš spēs cieņpilni dzīvot patversmes gana paskarbajā vidē, mēs būsim kopā ar viņu. Ar šo ziņu gribam vien jums darīt zināmu: šajā pasaulē vēl mīt šāds skaists, sirsnīgs un jauks suņopis vārdā Opelis.

About Opelis

What life with Opelis looks like

Opelis is a senior dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Opelis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Opelis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Opelis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Opelis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Opelis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Opelis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Opelis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
