Orion

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Our Orion is no constellation in the sky, but a wonderful, very friendly male dog who stands firmly on the ground and in life with his four paws. A life that could certainly be prettier if Orion found people who would lovingly take him into their home. Orion lived on the streets and was brought to the animal shelter by dog catchers. It turned out that he is a very social and adaptable dog who currently shares his pen with two older female dogs. This community works very well, as he gets along well with them. At first, he barked at people out of insecurity and lack of experience. This has changed significantly, and he now shows his loving character clearly: he wants to join people and is very clingy and cuddly. So he forgets that he is a big dog and climbs onto his attachment figures at the animal shelter to be very close to them. Orion is very balanced (despite the shelter situation!), more quiet and never excitable or quarrelsome. He thus brings wonderful foundations to become a loving, reliable family or companion dog. A suitable living environment for him would be an active family or a person/pair with time and interest in nature outings. A house with a garden where he can move freely would be a dream for him. As he has already shown at the animal shelter, he will easily adapt to his new people and new environment. However, his friendliness and loving nature should not be forgotten, as he is a rather large dog with corresponding strength. He knows this, but his adopters should keep it in mind. He will gladly welcome friendly dogs in his new pack. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

DE·Show original

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Orion

What life with Orion looks like

Orion is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
