Orion

Galgo Español · Male · Adult · 5 years

Profile of dogs from Toledo Rescue Mission: Orión, a beautiful Hovawart mix (we believe), is one of the five first dogs rescued from a perrera in inland Spain, that is closing and all of their 80 dogs, kept in terrible conditions, have to be evacuated. Orión used to be called Nr. 46, but that is now all behind him - he is now a member of Triple A Marbella family, and on his quick way to recovery from the past of neglect and misery slowly staying behind him, but still - he is in a shelter, and he should be in a home.... What's even more sad is that Orión used to have a home and was left in the perrera by his previous family. When we picked Orión up from from the perrera with the help of Galgos del Sol, he was in a terrible condition, nor we neither the groomers we contacted, have ever seen fur in such terrible neglected condition, he was carrying years of feces and dirt in what should have been a long, silky, beautiful black fur. Unfortunately he had to be fully shaved, which normally would not be done for a double-coated dog, but with the help of Pawadise SPA Marbella, Orión got his new shiny look, and the fur will grow back. Sadly the fur was not the only problem he has been suffering from - he also had a bad eye already for a longer time, and the eye specialists confirmed that the eye will have to be removed. However, he has not been seeing from this eye already a long time, so for him the eye surgery only meant getting rid of the pain and inflammation. Orión has a wonderful, friendly, open character full of joy. He is super goofy, like a big clown! Sometimes he behaves like a huge baby, rolling around in all kinds of sharp grass and then everything gets stuck into his silky fur which is already growing back. Then you are forced to pick all this sticky stuff out of his hair and he enjoys the touches and the attention. He adores all the volunteers and employees, and always wants to be near people, walk and run with them, ask for snacks and pets. He is such a joyful character and will bring a big smile on your face with his positivity and silly jumps and tricks. Orión can walk well on the leash, but at the same time he is strong, and dominant regarding other big dominant males. In case he would be living in a neighborhood with many other dogs, he will need some good training on leash, dog reactivity and socialisation with other dogs. If he would be living on the country side, well that would make things much easier and relaxed for him! He has been in dog socialisation sessions with other educated dogs who are trained for socialisations, and during these dog tests he did very well, giving us good hope that he could live together with another friendly, balanced dog. Also Orion has passed his first cat test very well, being respectful around the cats. He is already ready for adoption, and cannot wait to get out of the small kennel, to enjoy real life. Orión travels very well in the car, is respectful to the veterinaries and walks excellently on the leash away from the shelter stress. His shoulder height is around 65cm.

About Orion

What life with Orion looks like

Orion is a medium-sized adult galgo español dog waiting at Triple A Marbella in Marbella.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: One eye removal surgery needed due to chronic condition and inflammation

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Triple A Marbella handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Triple A Marbella will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Triple A Marbella early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
