Adopt Oskar

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

A beautiful, sweet dog? Or a difficult biter?? Well, Oskar is both, depending on which people ask this question. Fact is: Oskar has always met the wrong people since puppyhood. People who didn't understand him, who only saw his sweet appearance, who used him, passed him on, again and again. Oskar was always on his own, even while living with his people. But no one gave the very insecure dog support and guidance. So, Oskar built his world in his head. Out came very ambivalent behavior. Whenever Oskar felt insecure, threatened, or cornered, he would snap. Unhappy, insecure, anxiety-aggressive. So, he was repeatedly passed on over eBay with the fatal omission of his character traits. So, the poor guy had 6 (!!!) previous owners. With the last family, it became tense because a baby was expected. Oskar came to us as an emergency and has lived since November 2021 with our trainer in a family. And behold, finally, Oskar can show how wonderful he can be with the right people. Oskar gets along well with other dogs, he masters and follows all commands and reacts well to corrections. During training, he is eager to participate and shows himself to be a good student. He only had occasional outbursts where he showed his teeth, and these are becoming fewer. Here, one can trust Oskar a bit, trust him, and that is so important for an insecure dog like Oskar. He is highly sensitive and cuddly, needs a close contact and support from his trusted person, and always the feeling that he is well guided. He can be left alone and enjoys car rides. He tends to be food-aggressive, and here, the problem must be worked on again and again. Oskar now needs very competent people who know about his issues and can continue working with him. For people who can handle dogs and have no touch fears with a muzzle, no witchcraft is needed. Oskar bonds very closely with his primary caregiver and shows how wonderful he can be when understood and well guided. He needs responsible people with dog experience, without children, preferably only with compatible dogs (not necessarily), who are fulfilled and a heart matter to show such a dog as Oskar: Here you are safe, everything is good now. Are you that?

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
