Oskar

Male · Senior · 9 years

Oskar - small, strong-willed and a real one-of-a-kind. Small? Yes. Strong-willed? Oh, yes! This little guy has a lot of attitude and knows exactly what he wants - and what he doesn't. 😄 He's a funny, lovable little rascal who always makes his people smile with his unique way of doing things. But when something doesn't suit him or he's asked to do something, his mood can change quickly. Then he makes it clear that he's not happy. In the past, he learned to snap to defend himself when something was unpleasant or he felt cornered. That's why he needs people with experience who take his signals seriously and know how to handle such behavior safely and fairly. Oskar is definitely still a small rough diamond and needs a lot of learning and further training. At the same time, he has incredible potential. Those who approach him with patience, clear rules, calmness and understanding will quickly realize what a lovable guy is behind his sometimes rough shell. We are looking for experienced people who are willing to work with him and show him that he doesn't have to solve conflicts himself. He's not an easy dog and certainly not for everyone. But those who take on this little character head will get a very special companion. Small, cheeky, sometimes a bit toxic - but absolutely lovable. ❤️

DE·Show original

Gleichzeitig steckt in ihm unglaublich viel Potenzial. ❤️

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a small senior dog waiting at Tierschutz Leverkusen e.V. in Leverkusen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Leverkusen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Leverkusen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Leverkusen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
