adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! From the reserved long-term inmate who avoided contact with people and led a monotonous life under uncomfortable conditions in the public shelter of Baia Mare for 5 years, Oskar has transformed into a clingy dog in his foster home, showing affection towards his foster mom. He now enjoys being stroked and brushed. Oskar proves to be an intelligent and active male dog, but still tends to snap and bite in unclear situations. However, clear progress can be observed. Oskar lives with two other large male dogs. Although they are not really friends, thanks to careful management and clear guidance, conflicts can be avoided. In the autumn of 2024, while still an inmate in the shelter, Oskar's life suddenly became turbulent. He had to be operated on due to a severe bite and spent weeks on the ward. Additionally, there was a suspicion of a malignant tumor. Fortunately, the tumor turned out to be a benign tissue change. But the treatments frightened Oskar, and he went into defensive positions daily. Barely recovered, he was severely injured by another dog and had to stay on the ward for a second time, which further upset him. However, Oskar's dream of having a warm home with a comfortable dog bed, being desired, and being cared for was realized thanks to an exceptionally brave and heartwarming foster home. Oskar receives a loving and stimulating program in his foster home, and he will surely develop into a nice, sociable housemate, but safety and trust must still be built up. Oskar has made a long journey to shape his new life here, actively and with the firm will to enjoy it, as his foster mom. The handsome dogman is estimated to be 9 years old and has a great size of 50 cm. Our special male dog Oskar requires someone experienced who brings patience, empathy, and the ability to read a dog, and who can implement a loving but consistent training style with positive reinforcement. Oskar is neutered, would be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas before moving into his new home. He can then bring his EU pet passport. Many thanks! Marianne R.! Thanks to you, Oskar has a name and a chance to find his family. As of: 31.05. This animal has a history of biting.

Stand: 31.05.2026

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
