Otis has come to us from a breeder to find his forever home. He is an extremely nervous boy who is still finding the world a very scary place and is utterly petrified of human touch. When he first arrived, he would do everything he could to avoid being touched, frantically running around the yard to escape contact. Although he was interested in people, he simply didn't feel brave enough to let them close. Otis is now making small but lovely steps forward, although he is still extremely worried about touch, with those who he knows very well he will tentatively accept chin tickles, though is still very worried about this. He still needs to build his confidence, and getting him comfortable with human hands will be a slow process that is likely to continue well into his new home. His adopters must be prepared to work at his pace, without rushing or putting pressure on him. At just one year old, Otis has plenty of typical Labrador puppy character waiting to shine through. He loves tennis balls and soft toys and is still figuring out how to play fetch! As his confidence grows, we're beginning to see more of his funny, silly personality, and we hope there is lots more to come. Otis absolutely adores other dogs and takes great comfort and reassurance from their company. He will need at least one kind and confident resident dog in his new home to help him feel safe and guide him as he learns about life in a home. Having a canine friend by his side will be particularly important while he continues to build trust in people. Otis will need a calm, quiet, adult-only home with adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs and understand the time and patience they need. He has never lived in a home before, so he will need help learning all about home life, including house training. He will also need a secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft to keep him safe while he gains confidence. Otis has started harness training with his kennel mummy, and this will need to continue in his home at a slow and comfortable pace. This will need to be introduced gradually, starting in a safe environment and allowing him to progress at his own pace. Otis is a special little boy who is trying so hard to be brave. With patient, understanding adopters and a confident canine companion, we believe he has the potential to blossom into a fun, loving and rewarding companion. He will need a family willing to celebrate the smallest steps forward and give him the time he needs to discover that the world can be a wonderful place. Otis has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
