Adopt Otis

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 13 years

Otis does not let his age stop him! He loves to frolic in the long grass and explore new places. Otis also loves snacks and will never say no to a schmacko! He will curl up on his bed and have a well-deserved snooze after his activities. He will make a lovely new addition to his forever home. If you could offer this gentle older boy his forever home, apply to adopt today! Meet the sweet older gentleman, Otis, a 13-year-old boy looking for a home to spend his golden years in with a loving family. Otis dreams of a home that has plenty of cosy spots for him to cuddle up on and have a snooze after an outing. Even though he's an older boy, he would still like to go for regular walks and visit new places to tick things off on his bucket list. Otis would also like to stay social with other doggies by going on walks with his pals and could live with another calm dog, pending dog meets at the centre. He could live with older primary-aged children. As he is an older boy, it would be very beneficial for Otis to have ground access to the garden to prevent him from having to regularly trek up and down lots of stairs. Otis would like his adopters to be around for most of the time whilst he settles into his new home. Otis would love a peaceful, cosy, loving forever home! He does have ongoing medical conditions that will be discussed with our team upon booking.

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
