Otis

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Otis is one of the dogs taken in during 2023 from an intervention in Brwinów, where an older man kept dozens of dogs under extremely bad conditions. The animals reproduced inbreed, lived wild, were hungry and lacked contact with people. On Otis, this past left a particularly strong mark. He is a wild dog, very fearful, who despite attempts at socialization still panically fears people. In the presence of a stranger, he can run in panic and try to escape at all costs. In situations of strong stress, he may react defensively and bite - grab with his teeth and immediately let go. This is not aggression, but great fear. Otis feels best in the company of other dogs - their presence gives him a sense of safety and calm. Therefore, we are looking for a home with a garden, where he can live at his own pace, as well as another stable dog, which will help him build a sense of security and show him that people do not have to be a threat. This is not a dog for everyone. It requires experience, patience and full understanding of his limits. He will probably never be a typical "snuggler", but he deserves a calm, safe life without fear. We are looking for a home for Otis that will accept him as he is and give him space to just be a dog.

Otis to jeden z psów odebranych w 2023 roku z interwencji w Brwinowie, gdzie starszy mężczyzna utrzymywał kilkadziesiąt psów w skrajnie złych warunkach.

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
