Otis

Male · Adult · 4 years

Otis is a handsome 4-year-old Welsh Springer Spaniel cross Labrador with a big heart, bags of enthusiasm and a real love for being part of the action. He is friendly, confident and very happy to meet people. He can be wriggly and excited when greeting, but he settles after a few minutes and then enjoys being close, including climbing onto a lap for fuss if he gets the chance. Otis is an active, intelligent boy who loves getting outdoors. He enjoys forest walks most of all, especially where there are lots of interesting smells and puddles to investigate. He generally walks well on lead and enjoys having a bit of space to explore and sniff. Otis also travels quietly and settles well in the car, which is a lovely bonus for adventures further afield. At home, Otis is housetrained and has good recall in the garden. He is very toy-focused and loves a game, so he’ll need a family who can offer suitable outlets for his energy while also helping him learn how to switch off and enjoy calmer activities too. He needs to be the only pet in the home, but he can still enjoy walks with calm doggy companions. Otis can live with older primary school-aged children who are confident around a bouncy dog, and he would love his own garden for his playing antics. He is looking for adopters with previous experience of high-energy or working breeds, who understand the importance of giving a busy dog the right mix of exercise, mental stimulation, training and downtime. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate adventure buddy with plenty of personality, Otis could be a brilliant match. AWE licence number 13090 by West Lothian Council.

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a large adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Dundee in Dundee.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Dundee handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Dundee will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Dundee early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
