Adopt Otto

Male · Adult · 6 years

Rudais runčvīrs shelter arrived after the owner's death along with 9 other cats. Since relatives did not know anything about the cats - neither where the grey-haired ones came from, nor what they were sick with, nor their age - further details are only our assumptions. Otto is the youngest in the cat group - about 6-7 years old. A very beautiful cat, whose sunny golden coat is brightened by cool yellow eyes and black "summer spots" on the nose. A beauty! Temperamentally calm, even gentle and submissive, but - shy. He suffered very heavily from the change of environment, yet allowed all procedures that the shelter vet had to perform. If people arise who would like to give Otto a home - you need to have experience in cat care, no small children in daily life, patient, empathetic and loving. The kitten, although possibly never becoming a lap cat, can still blossom into trust and gentleness in the presence of his human. The other cat's sociability at home will help Otto overcome the stress of the change of environment more easily.

About Otto

What life with Otto looks like

Otto is a adult cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
