Adopt Ouzo

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 8 years

Our Ouzo during an impulse control exercise - Video Our Ouzo on the walk - Video Our Ouzo is an incredibly friendly and loving guy who wins over all hearts with his charm. He loves people very much, enjoys every petting and actively seeks the company of his "people." In his excitement, he can sometimes be a bit excessive and too forward - he presses close to someone and demands attention. However, with clear rules and a loving, consistent leadership, he learns to better regulate his enthusiasm. During walks, Ouzo usually gets along well with other dogs. Bicyclists, joggers or horses do not disturb him. During training, he is very enthusiastic - typical Labrador: He is highly motivated for treats and learns quickly. He already knows some basic commands confidently. Sometimes he even proudly shows off his tricks and then looks expectantly for a reward. His leash training still needs more work, as well as his tolerance for frustration - Ouzo prefers to get attention and confirmation immediately. However, with patience, clarity and regular training, he makes nice progress and tries very hard. In the kennel, he often reacts excitedly at first because he is so happy about visitors. But with a little patience, he has already learned to wait calmly before going in to see him. It is clearly noticeable that he wants to please and tries hard to do everything right. From his previous home, situations were reported in which Ouzo used his teeth. Therefore, he currently wears a muzzle in certain situations - he wears it completely relaxed and without problems. So far, he has shown no unusual behavior here. Nevertheless, we would like a home with dog experience, clear structure and confident leadership for him, so that he can feel secure.

About Ouzo

What life with Ouzo looks like

Ouzo is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ouzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ouzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ouzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ouzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ouzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ouzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ouzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
