Maximus

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 1 year

If you're interested in our dear Maximus, please send us your completed application form. Our dogs, including Maximus, usually come directly from Turkey to their families. What we know about Maximus: Maximus would not have survived on the streets. This young Labrador-Golden Retriever mix is only about 2 years old. And yet, one can see that he has already fought a lot. Maximus was found with Blut on his head – likely after an attack by street dogs. Dogs like him have no chance there. Too friendly. Too open. Too close to humans. He doesn't understand this world. Maximus loves people. He seeks proximity, looking at you as if to ask: "Will you stay?" With other dogs, he was initially unsure, but he is getting braver every day. He wants to belong – he just doesn't know how yet. A young woman saved him, but she already had two disabled dogs. Maximus is young, playful – he didn't understand her limits, he just wanted to play… and so he had to go again. Again, he was left. Again, without a place. Now, he is finally looking for what he never had: a real home, security, and a place to belong. People who will show him that he doesn't have to fight, who will give him time to build trust, and who will see his big heart. Please don't look away. He has only this one chance. Nice to know: Maximus is not a street dog. He is a dog for the couch, for closeness, for a life by your side. Nice to know: Maximus ist kein Straßenhund. About Maximus

What life with Maximus looks like

Maximus is a medium-sized young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Care-4-life e.V. in Stuttgart.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maximus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maximus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Care-4-life e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maximus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maximus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Care-4-life e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maximus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maximus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Care-4-life e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maximus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
