Owen

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 10 years

Owen, a sweet and affectionate black cat, is 10 years old and arrived at the shelter because he does not get along with the other cat in his home. Owen is a loving and gentle cat who enjoys human company and cuddles. 👧🐱🐶 He is currently in good health and has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). He is in good health and shows no symptoms related to the virus. Due to his FIV status, Owen will need to live as the only cat in the home to avoid the risk of transmission to other cats. It is generally recommended that FIV-positive cats live indoors. However, Owen has difficulty staying indoors and needs access to an outdoor space. We are looking for a warm and understanding home, ideally with a fully fenced and secure garden, so he can enjoy the outdoors without being able to wander off and meet other cats. Owen truly deserves to find a family that will see beyond his FIV status and give him the good life he is waiting for. 🥰🏡 Please contact us by phone at 02.

About Owen

What life with Owen looks like

Owen is an adult european shorthair cat waiting at SPA Valais in Uvrier.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Owen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Owen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Valais handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Owen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Owen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Valais will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Owen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Owen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Valais early rather than rehoming privately; they know Owen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
