Ozzy

Akita · Male · Young · 1 year

Ozzy is looking for a very active family who can keep up with his energy levels as this sweet boy loves nothing more than to run around an enclosed field, playing with his doggy friends. He is housetrained, walks well on the lead and is good in the car, so could potentially build up to going on fun adventures with his new family. Ozzy does have poor vision, which affects his coordination, but he doesn't let that bother him as he is still the same goofy boy who just wants to play with his ball and tuggy toys. This wonderful boy will be such an incredible companion for an active family who are willing to keep up with his exercise and confidence building. We can't wait for him to find his forever home! Ozzy is a handsome 1 year old Akita X with a big personality and bundles of energy. This gorgeous boy can live with another dog in the home, pending a successful meet at our centre, and would benefit from having social dog friends out and about as he is still a young man who needs to learn a few manners. Due to being a higher energy and bouncy boy, he would prefer all children to be older secondary school age and confident around bigger dogs. Ozzy is such an affectionate boy and he can sometimes jump up for fusses and cuddles with his favourite people. He is looking for owners who are able to build up his leaving hours slowly and help build his confidence being left alone in the home.

About Ozzy

What life with Ozzy looks like

Ozzy is a large young adult akita dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ozzy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ozzy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ozzy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ozzy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ozzy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ozzy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ozzy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
