Adopt Paco

Male · Senior · 12 years

Paco hasn't had much luck in life, and his experiences have left him with traumas that are hard to overcome. It breaks your heart to see him because, on one hand, he desperately craves affection and seeks out volunteers, clinging to them and begging for head scratches. On the other hand, he can't stand being on a leash or having his body touched; he instinctively and immediately defends himself at the slightest contact. From what we've been able to gather, for years he suffered from loneliness and beatings during moments of companionship. Paco needs work, patience, and a lot of understanding. And above all, he needs a lot of love, all the love that someone denied him, exchanging it for pain. We're going to fight for you, Paquito. We can't erase the scars, but we can help heal the wounds that still have a chance to heal and allow you to learn to trust again. If you want to sponsor Paco and get to know his progress, write to us.

About Paco

What life with Paco looks like

Paco is a small senior dog waiting at Almanimal Castalla in Spain.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almanimal Castalla handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almanimal Castalla will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almanimal Castalla early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
