Adopt Paco

Podenco · Male · Adult · 7 years

Animal Protector of Pego (APROP): Input 16 January 2026: 24 December 2025 was finally the moment. We welcomed Paco into our animal shelter. He was in the pound, the killing station, in Albaida. He caught our attention months ago when we first saw his photo, our first thought was: what on earth do we see! A Podenco with cut-off, mangled ears is something we had never seen before. Summer came and due to a lack of volunteers we could not take him in. Every time we had a break, there was another litter of puppies or more dogs that needed care. This week we decided it was Christmas and time for Paco to join the APROP family. We knew his life in the pound was not going well and that he had to get out. So welcome dear Paco, take all the time you want to relax, with us you will get the extra freedom you so desperately need. Meanwhile, we are a few weeks further and Paco feels great in his new home here at APROP. It's easy to understand why all the volunteers at the pound in Albaida loved him. What a sweetie he is. He loves everyone, and everyone loves him. His most favorite activity in the world is walking - tail up, soaking everything in and clearly enjoying the company. Despite the cruel mutilation of his ears, Paco harbors no malice. Actually, it adds an extra layer to his remarkable character: a dog who walks through life with his head held high, full of confidence and quiet dignity.

We verwelkomden Paco in ons asiel.

About Paco

What life with Paco looks like

Paco is a adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
