Paddy

Male · Adult · 5 years

Although he looks a little grumpy on photographs, Paddy is a happy go lucky lad who loves his walks and exploring new places, following interesting scents and taking in everything around him. Paddy has met several dogs both in our care and in foster and has been friendly though he often prefers to sniff and walk alongside rather than play. He is on pain relief for sore back legs so although he does loves being out and about, he does need to try and take it easy. His foster carers describe him as a fun, friendly boy who has settled brilliantly into home life. Paddy loves spending time with his people and travels well in the car, happily jumping straight into the boot for any outing. With his cheerful personality and love of adventure, Paddy is a wonderful companion who is sure to bring plenty of joy to his new family. Paddy is a 5 year old Shar Pei X Patterdale looking for his forever home. He can live with older children of upper secondary school age and above and would prefer to be the only pet in the home so he can enjoy all the attention for himself. Paddy is always up for an adventure, and can be left for a few hours once he has settled into a routine. He can be protective of valued items such as food and toys, so his family will need to give him space when he is eating or enjoying his belongings. For veterinary visits, Paddy requires pre-medication and will need to wear a muzzle for handling around his back legs so adopters will need to be comfortable supporting him with this. Paddy is currently in foster care and not based at the Manchester centre.

About Paddy

What life with Paddy looks like

Paddy is a adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
