Paloma

Podenco · Female · Young · 1 year

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Paloma was found in a bush – emaciated, underweight, and with paralyzed hind legs (see video). The Podenca-Mix female dog could only drag her hind legs behind her. Everything pointed to the fact that she likely had been in a car accident. When the animal welfare workers found her, however, she could still wave her tail – a small sign of hope! The veterinary diagnosis in September 2025 brought clarity: an operable vertebral fracture (see video). Paloma underwent costly surgery and has been bravely fighting her way back to life ever since. Although she still cannot walk without help, she is making daily progress through physiotherapy and the loving care of her foster parent, going for walks better every day (see videos). Paloma can now already independently eliminate waste, and she has some stretch reflexes – promising signs for her further development, toward recovery. No further surgery is necessary, according to the Spanish veterinary specialist. Paloma’s original owner (a hunter) could be found, but Paloma no longer wanted to stay with him and was given to the animal shelter. Paloma is extremely friendly, outgoing, gentle, and oriented toward people. She enjoys human affection and shows deep gratitude for every loving gesture. Paloma wishes from the bottom of her heart for a permanent family! Starting in March 2026, her current foster home can no longer give her the time she needs – that’s why she is now urgently seeking a loving, quiet home. A turbulent household would not be right, as Paloma is limited and thus less defensive. The white-furred dog with blue eyes cannot run, jump, sit, or climb stairs (she would need to be carried up stairs). Paloma is very people-oriented and builds a close bond with her primary caregiver (see video). She gets along well with friendly, social fellow animals and even with cats, but she can also live as a single dog. She no longer requires special medical care. When going to the bathroom, she needs some assistance as she still cannot squat. On the leash, she is well-behaved, still a bit wobbly. At the sight of rabbits, she momentarily forgets her good manners, but she cannot (yet) hunt and run. At home, she is quiet, relaxed, and sleeps a lot – her favorite being with loud snoring. Whoever gives her a safe, loving, and quiet home will receive a loyal companion with a big heart! Update 16.02.2026 new photos, new video Please note:

About Paloma

What life with Paloma looks like

Paloma is a large young adult podenco dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paloma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paloma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paloma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paloma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paloma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paloma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paloma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
