Panete

Podenco · Male · Adult · 7 years

Friendly, open, and simply nice. That's Panete. He is currently staying with a foster family in Spain. Here he is described as: "Panete is a curious dog, but not overly nervous. He is very affectionate and demands a lot of attention and love. He eats with great appetite and is always hungry. He is cheerful and very social - compatible with other dogs, people, and children, and I assume also with cats. He does his business outside and sleeps quietly alone in his corner on his bed. When left alone at home, he remains quiet and doesn't break anything. His good manners still need to be strengthened, as he has never had a proper family. Sometimes he jumps on the table looking for food or barks to get attention. But 95% of the time he is very quiet. He is very grateful and sensitive. If scolded, he quickly gets scared, which suggests that he may have been treated badly in the past. He is a dog who steals your heart immediately." Panete has leishmaniasis, but thanks to the foster family, he is now well cared for and is slowly becoming fit again. However, it's also time that he finds a home where he can stay. He receives low-purine food and allopurinol. More information about leishmaniasis can be found on our information page, and his adoption officer will gladly advise you on this. In a real home, he would certainly enjoy spending a lot of time with his person and accompanying him on many adventures. This is already noticeable at the foster family in Spain. There he is generally trouble-free. Who will give Panete a chance? Taking responsibility for a rescue dog is always a special challenge. The dogs come with a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. Would you like to take on the challenge and give this sweet dog a home? Panete would also be happy with a foster family. Here is Panete's video.

About Panete

What life with Panete looks like

Panete is a large adult podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Panete, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Panete?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Panete on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Panete if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Panete already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Panete isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Panete and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
