Papaya

Mixed Breed · Female · Baby

female Scheckenkaninchen, age unknown, probably not yet old, found as a stray [neutered] [] yes / no Since in the animal shelter since 20.05.2026 ________________________ Papaya came to us as a stray from Wetter, she was in a poor state of care with very dirty-yellowed paws, which are typical when animals have been sitting in their own filth for a long time. The circumstances suggest that she was abandoned, and it seems that no one misses her. She is a witty, cheerful little rabbit girl, enjoys attention, and meets people with great curiosity and trust. We are looking for a loving home for her that does not overwhelm her but gives her plenty of care and attention. Of course, Papaya would also like to move into the company of a suitable companion or a group. For her and a partner, a nice, spacious enclosure with enrichment and retreat possibilities should be available, with a floor space of at least 6qm, as recommended by the Veterinary Association, and should be constantly usable. The larger and more additional running space is available, the better, of course. Additionally, proper nutrition (i.e., not pellets or dry food but fresh greens, good hay, herbs, etc.) and reliable care should be ensured. We would like to point out that, like most small pets, rabbits are well suited as "observation animals" but should not be the first pet for children. ________________________ (as of 31.05.2026) (Click on the images to see them in full size!) The description gives the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or new assessments. It can always happen that a animal behaves or develops differently in the shelter or in the new home due to changing circumstances.

About Papaya

What life with Papaya looks like

Papaya is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Papaya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Papaya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Papaya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Papaya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Papaya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Papaya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Papaya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
