Adopt Pascha

Golden Retriever · Male · Senior · 13 years

Pascha was secured by the authorities. The male dog bit a passerby at his owners' place. Unfortunately, these did not comply with the resulting requirements, so Pascha had to be taken to our animal shelter. Initially, we were puzzled as to why the biting incident occurred. At the animal shelter, Pascha shows a very open and friendly attitude towards all people. He also approaches most fellow animals with friendliness. However, in recent times, there have been a few situations where Pascha has shown that he can also be different. He reacted twice to the approach of strangers with offensive aggressive behavior. We cannot yet say what the exact trigger is for Pascha. It seems to be more about strangers, especially men, who approach him and overstep his personal space. Unfortunately, the child has already fallen into the well, and Pascha has been classified as dangerous by the authorities. This means that Pascha must always be on a leash and wear a muzzle when outside of secure premises. His new owners must also pass a practical knowledge test and submit a conduct certificate to the authorities. We have now accustomed him to wearing a muzzle, and Pascha has successfully completed the behavioral assessment. For those not deterred by these hurdles, Pascha will be a clingy and faithful companion. Pascha enjoys going for walks, but he is not a sports dog anymore. Therefore, he is looking for a family where he can also have a more relaxed life. Pascha can also be kept as a second dog if the chemistry between the four-legged friends is good. Small children should not live in his home.

About Pascha

What life with Pascha looks like

Pascha is a senior golden retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Braunschweig in Braunschweig.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pascha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pascha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Braunschweig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pascha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pascha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Braunschweig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pascha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pascha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Braunschweig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pascha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
