Patenhund * Freya

Mixed Breed · Male

Freya is a lovable, initially reserved female dog who had to leave her home due to family reasons. She can stay alone for a few hours and travels well in the car. Overall, she needs to get to know the world a bit more since she has only ever been in her familiar surroundings. Freya is an extremely affectionate female dog to her primary caregiver. To navigate the world without issues, she needs a corresponding secure guidance through this. With loving composure, she gradually accepts unfamiliar situations, people, or dogs. Since Freya initially tends to bark out of fear, a calm consequence and trust in her primary caregiver help her develop into a completely relaxed female dog. In her foster family, Freya lives with a confident male dog and closely follows him as well as her foster father. Here, she has already made up for a lot that was previously denied to her. She enjoys cuddles and the affection she receives, because she is a true snuggle bug who always seeks the proximity of her person. She has learned that car rides take her to exciting new places and now happily jumps into the car independently. Freya loves to explore the world by walking and enjoys slipping into her harness when given, as this ultimately means going for a walk. She also makes great progress in meeting strangers or other dogs. When introduced to a situation with love, she quickly sheds her skepticism, licks the person's hand after a quick sniff, and is also compatible with almost every dog after a short get-to-know-you period, playing joyfully with them. Freya now also visits various excursion destinations like, for example, beer gardens and the like, becoming increasingly secure in handling them, settling down, and joyfully participating. We wish for Freya a home that brings the necessary empathy, love, and patience for an initially fearful dog and further solidifies and expands the new positive experiences, so she can finally live a life in safety and filled with love.

DE·Show original

About Patenhund * Freya

What life with Patenhund * Freya looks like

Patenhund * Freya is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patenhund * Freya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patenhund * Freya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patenhund * Freya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patenhund * Freya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patenhund * Freya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patenhund * Freya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patenhund * Freya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
