Paul

Male · Senior · 9 years

Paul had to leave his family due to serious health issues and is now looking for people he can bond with closely again. Groenendal is an open-minded, relaxed guy who bonds very closely with his humans. Paul also greets strangers openly and adores his caregivers and would love to be by their side all the time. He finds it hard to be alone and we would like a place where he doesn't have to do that regularly. With other dogs, Paul gets along well for the most part, sometimes a bit pushy but with good social behavior! He always lives in shared accommodations and runs regularly in our large mixed group. Due to chronic keratitis, Paul's eyesight is unfortunately limited. This has led to some fears developing in his previous home, such as the sound of the dishwasher. Currently, Paul copes very well with everyday life, but it is foreseeable that Paul will lose more and more of his eyesight as the disease progresses. Paul gets eye drops daily, which he tolerates very patiently. Outdoors, Paul is an active, sporty and very pleasant companion. Typically Belgian, he needs people who can give him guidance and are relaxed on the go; otherwise, he becomes rowdy quickly. Paul is a dog that really accompanies his humans everywhere. Whether it's hiking or to the office, where he is allowed here from time to time and masters this very well. We wish for him a stable, rather quiet and ideally experienced, calm environment. People who are willing to give him guidance and also provide stability and security as his blindness progresses. About Paul

What life with Paul looks like

Paul is a large senior dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paul, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paul?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paul on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paul if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paul already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paul isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paul and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
