Pavel

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 8 months

I am Pavel! I came to the shelter as part of an official seizure after being illegally brought across the border as a small puppy. I should have been growing up in a family of my own by now, but due to a mandatory rabies quarantine ordered by the authorities, I have not been able to be adopted so far. Now I hope that the right people will find me at last. I am a cheerful, playful, and very affectionate young male who loves the closeness of his caregivers. I particularly enjoy physical contact and I quickly bond with my humans. I already walk nicely on a leash, but I am still a bit uncertain in unfamiliar surroundings. I still need to learn to ride in a car and also being left alone is something we should practice together. I also do not like being restrained during dressing or veterinary examinations. With patience, training, and positive experiences, this can definitely be worked on. Healthwise, I am unremarkable. I am vaccinated against rabies, have been successfully tested for rabies titer multiple times, and already have an EU pet passport. For my new home, I am looking for loving people with a lot of time, patience, and joy in discovering the world with me. Due to the mandatory home quarantine, I must live as a single dog until November. No rabies-susceptible animals - so no dogs, cats, or ferrets - as well as no children, are allowed in the same household during this time. Our animal caregivers would be happy to explain the exact provisions of the home quarantine to you in a personal conversation. I wish for people who will give me the chance to catch up on everything I missed as a puppy and grow into a great team with me. If you would like to get to know me and give me this special chance, please contact the shelter. Your Pavel

Dein Pavel

About Pavel

What life with Pavel looks like

Pavel is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pavel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pavel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pavel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pavel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pavel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pavel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pavel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
