Pearl

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Pearl is looking for an adult-only home. She would like to be the only cat in the home and requires an indoor-only environment. Pearl is a lovely lady who is sadly finding the shelter environment quite overwhelming. She spends a lot of her time hiding away however, she is making great progress with her confidence and will now enjoy strokes from our staff after she’s had a little while to warm up. She does still remain easily spooked, however, and can still ask for her space at times when feeling worried. Pearl lived with children and another cat in her previous home which she found very stressful and she was quite unhappy in such a busy environment. When the home was calm and quiet, she was said to be an affectionate girl, but due to how overwhelming she found her living situation, she would spend a lot of her time hiding away. Due to this, Pearl would be best suited to a calm and quiet forever home, where she can fully relax and enjoy the peace! We are already seeing glimpses of what a loving and affectionate girl Pearl will be in the right environment, it is obvious that she has so much love to give and just needs to feel safe and secure enough to be able to show it! This lovely lady so deserves to find a forever family who can offer her the peaceful home she is so desperate for. We have no doubt she will reward her new family by revealing more and more of her sweet character and showing them tons of affection once she’s settled in and comfortable.

About Pearl

What life with Pearl looks like

Pearl is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pearl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pearl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pearl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pearl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pearl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pearl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pearl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
