Pebbles

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

✅ Can live with children aged 10+ ✅ Neutered, vaccinated and microchipped ✅ Will receive five week's FREE pet insurance Pebbles is unapologetically Pebbles. She's funny, quirky, fiercely independent, and absolutely certain that she should be the one deciding how every interaction unfolds. For someone looking for a cat with a genuinely distinctive personality rather than a permanent lap warmer, she could be a fantastic match. Pebbles isn't a particularly people-orientated cat. She doesn't automatically gravitate towards visitors and won't seek someone out simply because they're available to give her attention. Build a relationship with her over time, however, and she does begin to let those walls down. Her carers have seen exactly that happen as she's become increasingly comfortable at the café. Affection comes in very specific Pebbles-sized portions. She might enjoy one or two strokes before giving your hand a little bat (without claws) to inform you that the interaction is over. Amusingly, she may then come back and request another couple of strokes. As her trust has grown, she's begun tolerating longer fusses, rolling over, showing her belly, and nuzzling for head rubs. Her carers believe that with dedicated one-to-one time, there's still more of Pebbles' softer side waiting to emerge. Her day-to-day priorities are straightforward - food, comfortable high-up sleeping spots, sunshine, and independence. When the mood strikes, she'll play and chase a worm toy, but she is equally content entertaining herself and can comfortably spend a full working day without human company. Pebbles has also made significant progress around other cats. Initially somewhat territorial, she now coexists with them without causing problems. Importantly, though, she doesn't interact with them. She doesn't seek them out to play, cuddle, sleep, or socialise; she simply shares the same environment and gets on with her own life. She could therefore live alongside another cat, but the ideal companion would be one equally happy to coexist rather than expecting Pebbles to become a playmate. She could live with older children, but they would need to be genuinely cat-savvy, respect her boundaries, and understand that the occasional paw is simply Pebbles communicating that she's had enough. Pebbles could enjoy safe outdoor access after settling, particularly given her love of soaking up the sunshine, but she could also live entirely indoors with sufficient enrichment. A busy household wouldn't necessarily bother her, although she certainly doesn't require one. Pebbles isn't difficult; she simply knows what she likes. She needs someone who won't take it personally when she wants space and who'll appreciate every little milestone as she learns to trust them. For the right person, watching this independent little character gradually choose to let you into her world could be incredibly rewarding.

About Pebbles

What life with Pebbles looks like

Pebbles is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at People in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pebbles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pebbles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. People handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pebbles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pebbles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — People will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pebbles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pebbles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with People early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pebbles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
