adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Peco is a very special dog – one who immediately catches the eye because he radiates joy despite everything. He is about 3 years old, approximately 50-55 cm tall, and weighs around 17 kg. A handsome, medium-sized male dog with an open, cheerful nature, who brings everything one could wish for in a loyal companion. But Pecos' story is different from that of many young dogs. He was found helpless during a neutering operation – with an irreparably broken spine. Additionally, one of his hind legs had to be amputated. This serious diagnosis has fundamentally changed his life. Today, Peco is paralyzed and dependent on support. He has been waiting in the our shelter for over 1.5 years already. This long time under difficult conditions is particularly stressful for a dog with a handicap. The more pressing it is that he is finally seen. Despite all this, Peco has preserved something very important: his joy in life and his love for people. He is incredibly friendly, playful, and actively seeks closeness. He enjoys every small attention to the fullest. He also shows openness and social behavior with other dogs. Peco wants to live, belong, and simply be a dog – with everything that belongs. However, the conditions in the our shelter can hardly provide this for him. The conditions are particularly difficult for a dog with a handicap: too little space, too many dogs, and too little time for individual care. Just Peco needs structure, affection, and an environment that caters to his needs. He does not seek pity, but people who really see him. People who understand that his value is not determined by his physical limitations. People who are willing to support him in everyday life – this includes necessary bladder management – and who take pleasure in enabling him to enjoy strolls and experiences with a wheelchair. The required wheelchair will be provided, and a foster home will be comprehensively supported. Peco wishes nothing more than a home where he can finally arrive. A place where he is loved as he is and where he can show how much joy, charm, and affection are in him. We would also be very happy about a foster home, as it would be a huge opportunity for Peco to make the first step into a dignified life outside the our shelter. Peco travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport to his new home.

About Peco

What life with Peco looks like

Peco is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
