For full-screen photos please click on the corresponding pictures Penny - sensitive girl dog Penny has experienced so much in Spain. And definitely not much of it good. She was found under a highway bridge with a deep bite wound by an animal rescuer. Of course, Penny received immediate medical care, so the wound has healed very well. Penny now lives in a wonderful foster home near Hannover. Penny was born in February 2022, is about 40 cm tall and weighs a delicate 7 kilos. She is a quiet, very affectionate female dog who above all wants one thing: to be close to her person. Whether inside or outside in the garden – Penny curiously watches what her foster mom does without being intrusive. She doesn't need other dogs to be happy, as she only values her bond with "her" person. She hardly barks, can stay alone well, and listens reliably when called by name. Penny has a small quirk – when highly excited or triggered, she sometimes bites her leg. This is not problematic and does not interfere with daily life. Walks are currently not possible, as Penny reacts panically to collars or harnesses. Therefore, we are only looking for a home for her, whether house or apartment, with a fenced-in garden. City visits or travel are not for her. But she doesn't need that either – Penny just wants to be there, follow her person around at home, and accompany them through life. If you're looking for a loyal soul, you will find a truly special heart on four paws in Penny. Please feel free to contact Petra via phone or email if you would like to meet Penny. Penny will be rehomed through standard animal welfare procedures. She is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Hier finden Sie uns: www.hund-tut-gut.deinfo-tut-gut.de31319 Sehnde

About Penny

What life with Penny looks like

Penny is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hund-tut-gut e.V. in Sehnde.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Penny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Penny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hund-tut-gut e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Penny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Penny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hund-tut-gut e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Penny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Penny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hund-tut-gut e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Penny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
