Pepper

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: In his first two years, Pepper has experienced so much pain, fear, and loneliness that it seems to be enough for a long life. But he had an angel, who sent him from the small intake shelter in Craiova to the cruel Breasta killing facility. Regularly, she is on site to save at least some souls from their execution and to pave the way to a happy life for them. Unfortunately, she can only take as many dogs as she has free spaces. No dog deserves to be at this place in overcrowded cages, exposed to the elements without or with insufficient food and water, full of despair and hopelessness. Precisely there, the little Pepper cowered alone, fearfully, and lost in the corner of his death cell, when he was discovered. Paula could not ignore those sad eyes, one of which is icy blue, and took him in. Nothing is known about his earlier life. Likely, Pepper suffered the fate of many dogs in Romania, who were first acquired as farm dogs or for entertainment and then abandoned or killed when they fell ill, reached puberty, or were no longer wanted. At the intake shelter, Pepper quickly showed his rescuer what a loving soul lies within him. Despite all the suffering he has experienced, he is friendly, playful, curious, and full of joy. He loves the company of humans and is an average active dog who gets along well with other dogs and cats. Pepper wants to discover so much more, feel love, and finally arrive. He needs people who value him, give him security, and show him the beautiful sides of life as a family dog. Who would like to give this special dog a life full of warmth, joy, adventure, and security and write a new chapter of happiness with him? He has earned it so much.

About Pepper

What life with Pepper looks like

Pepper is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pepper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pepper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pepper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pepper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pepper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pepper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pepper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
