Adopt Periwinkle

Bichon Frisé · Female · Senior · 9 years

05-06-26 Periwinkle is a gorgeous Bichon Cross who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. She is a coy but kind little lady who is still finding her feet and building her confidence. At the moment, Periwinkle is not quite brave enough to approach us on her own, but once she has had a little time in your arms, she begins to relax and enjoy a gentle fuss. Beneath her worries is a sweet-natured girl who is slowly learning that people can be trusted. Periwinkle gets on wonderfully with her kennel friends and relies on their company for comfort, so she will need a kind resident dog in her new home to help guide her and give her the reassurance she needs as she settles in and finds her paws. As Periwinkle has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training, lead training, and the other basics of home life. Her adopters will need to be patient and understanding as she adjusts to a completely new way of life. She will need an adult-only home that can understand that she needs time to settle in. A calm and predictable environment will help her feel safe and allow her confidence to grow at her own pace. Periwinkle has arrived with a Grade 2 patella luxation. At present, the joint and surrounding muscles appear stable, and she is able to walk and run normally without any difficulties. Our vets will continue to monitor her closely to ensure she remains comfortable and receives any treatment or support she may need. Her new adopters will also be advised to keep an eye on her mobility and monitor the condition going forward. Periwinkle loves playing with her kennel friends and enjoys their company, often looking to them for reassurance. Although she lacks confidence right now, we hope that with time, patience, and the support of a canine companion, she will continue to gain confidence and show more of her lovely personality as she settles into home life. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Periwinkle

What life with Periwinkle looks like

Periwinkle is a senior bichon frisé dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Periwinkle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Periwinkle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Periwinkle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Periwinkle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Periwinkle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Periwinkle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Periwinkle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
