Adopt Sachiko

Bichon Frisé · Female · Adult · 6 years

Sachiko is a sweet lady who has come to us from a breeder. She was quite timid when she first arrived and relied heavily on her kennel friends for reassurance, which meant she didn’t initially feel confident enough to show her true personality. Over time, she has started to make lovely progress and is really beginning to come out of her shell. She has a playful side that is starting to shine through, occasionally showing itself in the form of the sweetest zoomies, and she is also beginning to enjoy playing with toys. Her absolute favourite thing, though, is definitely food! She is still a very quiet girl overall, but will now happily let her kennel carers know when it’s mealtime. She really enjoys her treats and is comfortable taking them gently from the hand and eating close by, which is a really positive step for her. Sachiko continues to make steady progress at the rescue, and she is genuinely a joy to spend time with. She is now walking well on a harness and especially loves being out on the grass where she can take her time sniffing and exploring. Her tail is often up when she is investigating, which is so lovely to see. She can still be nervous around things like passing cars and unfamiliar people, but she is slowly building her confidence and improving all the time. She has also recently had another groom and was an absolute angel for it. Our resident groomer was very impressed with how well she coped and handled everything calmly, which shows just how far she has already come. Sachiko will still need a kind, confident resident dog in her home to take her under their wing and help guide her. She is always settled in bed with at least one of her kennel friends here at the rescue, and she takes great comfort from canine companionship. She is not a fan of overly busy or in-your-face dogs, so a calm, placid resident dog would be the best match for her. She will also need an adult-only home with patient adopters who can continue to guide her as she learns about house training and builds her confidence with walking on a harness. Starting with gentle garden exploration and quiet environments will be very important for her continued progress. Sachiko has had a cyst removed from her mammary area and also has a skin tag on her side which requires no action. She has had a dental at the time of her spay, our vets noted she has some root exposure, but no further action is required. She also has Grade 2 patella luxation in her right hind leg, which may improve with gentle exercise as she builds muscle. With continued love, reassurance, and a calm, supportive environment, Sachiko will keep blossoming into the gentle, affectionate little companion she is clearly becoming. Sachiko has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Sachiko

What life with Sachiko looks like

Sachiko is a small adult bichon frisé dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Grade 2 patella luxation right hind leg, dental issues with root exposure, requires ear treatment, needs resident dog companion

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sachiko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sachiko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sachiko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sachiko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sachiko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sachiko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sachiko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
