PS SR, Food Spot Stella Canaris, born: 08/13, castrated tomcat, at the food spot since 2013 – Sponsorship needed! Tomcat Peterle – A Life in the Stella Canaris Colony, Cared For and Accompanied Peterle is one of the cats born outdoors who spends his life in a community of street cats. For many years, he has lived in the Stella Canaris colony at Fortevenutra – a place that offers protection but also presents challenges. We got to know Peterle in the fall of 2013 during a castration action. After his castration, the then young, wild tomcat remained in the Stella-Canaris colony, where he continues to live today, regularly cared for by our cat coordinator Sabine Rösch. She keeps an eye on his health and steps in when help is needed. How dangerous life as a street cat can be became clear in early 2014. Sabine noticed that Peterle was limping severely, barely eating, and in great pain. He could be safely and medically examined. The diagnosis was alarming: a healed fracture in his right hind leg as well as a painful infection in his mouth. After treatment, Peterle was allowed to return to his familiar colony after a night in the animal clinic. It soon became clear how effective the help had been – he was walking safely again, eating well, and regaining visible quality of life. Today, many years later, Peterle still lives in the Stella-Canaris colony. He is in good health, knows his territory, and is not left to his own devices. The medical care for Peterle was only possible thanks to the support of sponsors and donors. We heartily thank you. Please continue to support Peterle and the cats of the Stella Canaris colony with a sponsorship or a donation. Because even cats who live outdoors need reliability and care.

About Peterle

What life with Peterle looks like

Peterle is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierhilfe Fuerteventura in Dransfeld.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peterle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peterle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Fuerteventura handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peterle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peterle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Fuerteventura will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peterle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peterle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Fuerteventura early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peterle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
