Mixed Breed · Female

Petra ID-Nr: 1053696 Breed: Breton - mixed breed Age: ca. 08/2023 Gender: female Height: ca. 42 cm Spayed/Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry Form Petra – small Breton lady with a big heart 🐾❤️ Petra (ca.*08/23, ca. 42 cm) currently lives in our partner shelter Triple A Marbella in Spain and is waiting there for her second chance. She was found alone on the street with her companion Chilifox. Although she has a microchip registered to a Spanish hunter, no one has inquired about her or come to pick her up despite our best efforts. Now, we hope that Petra will get the chance to start a new life – far from the world of hunting and into a loving home. The small female Breton dog is incredibly gentle and friendly. Petra is a true cuddle queen, always looking for ways to be close to her people. It doesn't take long for her to snuggle up or press her face right up to yours once you sit down with her. She also seeks out physical contact when standing, often placing her paws on her people just to be near them. Outdoors, Petra shows her typical breed characteristics: curious, active, and with her nose to the ground. She loves to follow scents, discover new smells, and have small adventures. Anyone adopting Petra should enjoy outdoor excursions and provide her with ample opportunities for nose work and mental stimulation. A GPS tracker might be a good idea for this little explorer. Petra is exceptionally social and friendly with other dogs. She even makes an excellent orientation helper for insecure or anxious dogs, as she exudes calm and friendliness. While she could also be happy as a single dog, an ideal home would be one where she continues to have regular contact with other animals. Bretons are considered people-oriented, loving family dogs, and Petra is no exception. Due to her friendly nature, we can envision her well with engaged new dog owners – provided they are informed about the breed's needs beforehand. Besides adequate exercise, Bretons need mental stimulation for their smart heads and excellent noses. Since Petra likes to go on exploration tours, we would like a home with a securely fenced garden or people who pay extra attention to her safety on walks. With her balanced temperament, she could also thrive in a quieter neighborhood or on the outskirts of town, provided there is enough nature nearby. Petra is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, she has been tested for Mediterranean diseases, dewormed, and treated for fleas. About Petra

What life with Petra looks like

Petra is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Petra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Petra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Petra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Petra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Petra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Petra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Petra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
