animal shelter Malaga Animales y Plantas: Update 20 January 2026: There are 12 new photos and a new video added of Petunia. Update 16 July 2025: Petunia has 15 new photos and a new video has been added. Update 20 May 2024: Petunia is now, with the help of volunteers and lots of time, a happy dog full of life and love. Although she currently lives with a subordinate and playful male dog, Petunia is initially not social with other dogs. She is very suspicious and always thinks that another dog will attack her, and although she seems relaxed in her kennel run or on the play area, as soon as you are distracted, she can bite the nearest dog ("snap"). Petunia can only live with subordinate dogs and at the moment she also lives peacefully with a subordinate, playful and very active dog that is bigger than her. With people she is very kind and obedient, she follows us everywhere and barks happily when she wants something done. Petunia is very funny, well-behaved, loving and very smart. We are looking for an active and loving family for Petunia, without dogs or other animals, who want to play with her and give her all the love she deserves. 9 new photos and a video added. Input 2 August 2022: This beautiful girl is Petunia, she was from a hunter who did not treat her well. She lived in a Rehala (a large pack of dogs) and they got food when their owner remembered and the same applied to water. Petunia came into the animal shelter very scared along with Margarita, her half-sister. Over time, and with a lot of love and patience, Petunia has improved a lot, although she is still a little shy. She is very good with other dogs, she loves being surrounded by them, she plays a lot with her friends. She is an active little dog, always running and running from one place to another, after her friends. Petunia has no problem sharing her food or toys. With people she is very kind and funny, she always wants to play with us and she loves to lie close to us in the sun. When she wants to play or wants something nice, she barks to let us know she wants something from us. Petunia has Leishmania, she is now being treated for it. For Petunia we are looking for an active and kind family who want to play a lot with her and who give her the love and life she deserves.

About Petunia

What life with Petunia looks like

Petunia is a young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Petunia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Petunia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Petunia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Petunia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Petunia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Petunia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Petunia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
